Courses

Following on from the success of the inaugural throwing courses at Waun Hir Pottery in 2013, we are pleased to announce that once again we will be running three courses in 2014. Set among the beautiful hills of the Brecon Beacons, these four day hands-on courses will teach the fundamentals of making stoneware pottery.

Small groups of up to 5 will each be provided with a professional electric wheel and unlimited top quality clay. Daily demonstrations will be followed by expert one-to-one tuition, and all levels of proficiency are welcome.

During the 4 days the emphasis will be on throwing the stoneware body that is used here on a daily basis at the pottery. The thrown pots will be turned and other making techniques such as handle extruding and press- moulding spouts will be covered by students who wish to do so.

The courses will concentrate on making only, as time limitations do not permit firing. However students may select pieces which they have made to be fired after their departure from the course. The fired pieces can then be collected or sent by courier at a later date.

Waun Hir Pottery is situated in a truly stunning part of Wales and as such is an inspiring place to work or learn. Students will be provided with a list of good places to stay locally or if they prefer for no extra charge, camping and shower facilities are available at the pottery.

Each day the making will be punctuated by morning and afternoon tea or coffee with home made cake. Lunch times will be delicious, home cooked, locally produced food, all served up on the stoneware made at the pottery.

Nearby in the picturesque Towy Valley lies the market town of Llandeilo and within a short drive from the pottery are many destinations well worth visiting: Carreg Cennen Castle, National Botanic Gardens of Wales and Aberglasney to name but three.

Why not enrol on a Waun Hir Pottery Course, then extend your visit to Carmarthenshire and explore further some of the riches on offer locally?
