Kitchen Pottery in Prince Charles' Welsh Home

The 18th Century former coach house and farm buildings at Llwynywermod near Myddfai, Carmarthenshire were purchased by the Duchy of Cornwall estate two years ago and have been beautifully renovated becoming the first Welsh home for the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.

The old coach house has been transformed into a three bedroom traditional farmhouse-style home for Charles and Camilla, offering the couple their perfect Welsh retreat.

The tasteful interior includes traditional Welsh weavings on the walls and country pottery on the dresser.

A number of Nick’s pots have been aquired for use at the home.

Swallows keep warm and dry

Nestling high above the kiln at the Waun Hir pottery, these baby swallows certainly found the best place to escape the recent cold wet weather. The propane kiln reaches temperatures of 1300 degrees Celcius which means the birds must have had the cosiest nest around.

Nick planned to seal up the pottery studio roof this year to stop the swallows coming in (as they do tend to make a bit of a mess) but finally he did not have the heart to keep them out in the cold.

Showroom to open
''Four years on and Waun Hir Pottery is starting to look like I imagined it might.'' Nick says.

With all the doors fitted at last (well at least the ones you can see), it is hoped that the goal to convert the smallest room at the end of the pottery into a showroom, is within reach.

Showroom opening planned for Easter 2008. Watch this space for updates.

''Unfortunately a little later than planed, their simply aren't enough hours in the day!''
