Nestling high above the kiln at Waun Hir pottery, these baby swallows certainly found the best place to escape the recent cold, wet weather. The propane gas kiln reaches temperatures of 1300 degrees Celsius, which means the birds must have had the cosiest nest around.
We planned to seal up the pottery studio roof this year to stop the swallows coming in (as they do tend to make a bit of a mess) but finally we did not have the heart to keep them out in the cold.
